Guidelines: To submit to Jai-Alai, please use either our online submission system or submit your work in person to one of our artist designed drop-boxes.

Directions for physical submissions: Please type your submission. We do not accept handwritten submissions. Include your name, address, and email address on a brief cover letter. We will not read or utilize any curricula vitae included in the cover letter as part of our decision; the cover letter is merely a way to keep track of submissions. Use a paper clip or envelope to bind your submission. Any submissions that do not adhere to our guidelines will be RECYCLED. Learn more about our archive.

When your submission is ready, choose the most convenient drop-box location for you. Walk/ride/bike to the drop-box and insert your submission where directed.

Types of work we accept:

Short Essays
Essays must be 1,000 words or fewer. While we have no specific style or content requirements, we prefer essays that avoid academic jargon and speak to hyper-contemporary issues from thoughtful persepctive.

Submit up to three poems at once. No word count. No style preferences.

Stories must be 750 words or fewer. No style preferences. One story max per submission.

Artwork must be submitted in black and white (no color) and adhere to following production guidelines. Artwork that does not adhere to these guidelines will be immediately archived.

Language of origin: Jai-Alai accepts work in the following languages: English, Spanish, French, Creole, German, and Portuguese. When submitting work in a non-English language, please provide a translation.
